Our applied studies of micronutrient effects on synapse development have resulted in the first exciting leads. Bea’s and Malik’s study of the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) reveals profound and beneficial effects on synaptic connectivity and cortical information processing. It is now published in Cerebral Cortex. DHA is a breast milk component and this study can advance our insights into the benefits of breast milk components on the cognitive development of infants.
