    Short Biography

I have completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field of Biotechnology. My undergraduate thesis was on the anticancer properties of the Salicornia bigelovii plant in the HeLa cell line. Among other projects were the preparation of nanoparticles such that they can be transported through blood-brain barrier. During my master’s program at Johns Hopkins University, I learned the culture of embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells, their maturation to oligodendrocytes, gene editing techniques like CRISPR, protein characterization methods, and the use of flow cytometry. I was always interested in learning about the cellular and molecular functions occurring in the brain, so I joined the Biederer lab to learn about synaptic biology and to gain experience in research techniques such as neuronal culture, confocal microscopy, and animal handling.
